New England Hiking Holidays

Maine Coast

Acadia National Park

Acaadia parkAcadia National Park, on Maine's rugged coastline, combines some truly spectacular hiking with atmospheric towns and villages. Rocky cliffs and mountains rise abruptly from the sea to create a unique landscape found rarely along America's eastern seaboard.

Our hikes lead us to every corner of Mount Desert Island. For the adventurous there are trails along exposed mountain ridges that lead through carpets of blueberries to rocky peaks. Other paths wind their way along the shore line to sandy beaches, hug the many lake shores or follow the more gentle 'carriage paths' that John D. Rockefeller Jr. constructed in the 20's.

Added attractions such as 'tea and popovers' at the famous Jordan Pond House are possible only in this particular area where wilderness and history are so interwoven.

We begin our journey at the stately Asticou Inn in Northeast Harbor.  The inn sits at the foot of Eliot Mountain and boasts spectacular ocean and mountain views, charming accommodations and renowned harborside dining.

Maine CoastThe other two nights find us at The Holbrook House in the heart of Bar Harbor's historic corridor. Bar Harbor is a bustling coastal town full of down-east charm and the inn is one of the original "cottages" built in 1876 to provide lodging for wealthy Easterners.

Dining on this trip takes advantage of the many fine restaurants nearby - including a lobster feast one night.

Trips begin with dinner on Sunday and end after hiking and lunch on Thursday.

  • Historic Bar Harbor
  • Atmospheric fishing villages
  • Scenic coastal hiking and historic carriage roads
  • Highest coastal mountains north of Rio De Janeiro
  • Great seafood with a lobster feast
